Week Sixteen: End of Chapter One

Week Sixteen: End of Chapter One

This week definitely felt like the end of the first chapter. We crossed into Russia. We hit 5,000km on our CatEye Cycle Computer. I filled my first diary. And as a final full stop, we had our first dog chase as we left Estonia…

Week Fourteen: Muhu, Saaremaa & Hiiumaa

Week Fourteen: Muhu, Saaremaa & Hiiumaa

No, those aren’t the names of Dan’s imaginary friends, they’re the names of the three Estonia islands we cycled around this week. Yes, Estonia has islands! We were surprised too…

Week Eleven: Bribery, Impulsiveness & Sweden

Week Eleven: Bribery, Impulsiveness & Sweden

Beautifully dangerous. There are no two better words that could best describe our time in Norway. Every turn offered up a postcard-worthy view, but along with that often came dangerous (maybe a bit dramatic?) challenges…

Week Eight: The Even-Slower-Than-Expected Race

Week Eight: The Even-Slower-Than-Expected Race

Before we left in April, we booked a return flight from Stockholm back to the UK for a family wedding, thinking we’d make it that far in roughly three months. According to our calculations, we won’t...

Week Seven: Jacob and the Black Forest

Week Seven: Jacob and the Black Forest

What a week! Riding through the Black Forest in Germany has been incredible. It's easy to see how it inspired Grimms' fairytales, every turn offered up spectacular views – hauntingly dark woods, steep mountain passes, picturesque towns and fantastic castles. There were some challenges – and ticks…

Everyday’s a school day on our cycle tour, and this week especially, we feel like we’ve packed so much into our tired, little brains. So what did we learn…

Week Four: Sunshine Brain

Week Four: Sunshine Brain

Minus the bloodthirsty mosquitoes, we started the week the best way possible: with two days' rest on a hot beach, supping beer and red wine. Embarrassingly, while in this sunny daze, we got totally and utterly lost on the way to the supermarket. A trip that should have taken one hour, ended up taking close to three…

Week Three: Too Much, Too Soon?

Week Three: Too Much, Too Soon?

What a week. We cycled everyday. That’s seven days of riding totalling 471 KM. Granted one day was only 20 KM, but it was still a lot of saddle time. After such a wet second week, we decided to change our route and head to the sunny French coast, making a deal with ourselves that we could have two days off once we hit the beach. In hindsight, yes it was too much, too soon.

By ride five, we were tired and grouchy with each other…
